Shouting Out Reader Work
Some comedy from readers, plus announcements
First, a shout out to Comedy Bizarre comment section VIP Zachary Baiel, for his interesting and super fun audio theater project,📞 Call 765-ODD-TACO 🌮 Leave a voicemail 🎭
The number is real: you call and leave a voice message. Be any character you want. Come up with something interesting and strange. Zachary puts these character voice mails on his publication as short audio performances. Check out the posts for more. A cool project!
Also, a couple of humor pieces I liked, recently published…
Items That I, A Single Lady, Would Prefer the Bride Toss Rather Than A Day-Old Bouquet by Sarah Russom.
“One-hundred-dollar bills fired from a T-shirt cannon, which I’ll use to bribe the wedding photographer to only shoot my good side.”
A great example of how you can world-build in an interesting and satisfying way with humor writing, in very little space. You can totally see Beth, the busybody friend, alongside the narrator who’s just trying to live her best single life as an aspiring comic.
Shopping for Father’s Day When You’re His Secret Family by Joey Coon - “Personalized gifts are always meaningful. However, avoid anything that Linda could discover at Dad’s real house—which you remember from the time your mother parked across the street and quietly cried as you admired the trampoline.”
A funny concept on its own, but also an example of how specifics sell a piece. From the trampoline in dad’s nicer “official” house to the excellent“Bill from Marketing” runner.
Announcements
The latest Weekend Writers’ Room was solid, and participation is high.

I just closed the latest round of writing group matchmaking, this weekend. For those of you who threw your hat in the ring, expect to hear from me by email, shortly.
And for those of you who want to participate in the future, the next round will most likely be in the Fall.
Finally, I could use more questions for the Comedy Bizarre reader Q&A section. Any questions about writing on your mind?
Fire away in the comments section, and I’ll answer in an upcoming post.

Thanks for sharing my 765-ODD-TACO project and all of the kind words, Alex. I appreciate it. It's a lot of fun collaborating with other comedic writers and performers to create these voicemail universes.
Sarah Russom's piece was a great listicle piece. Now I want to hear more adventures of Beth and her Fake Fiancé #1.
Joey Coon's work hits all over. Especially as a father. The brooding of the secret family is tragically palatable. And damn those out-of-network orthodontists.
Wonderful to hear you will be continuing the Weekend Writer's Rooms. They are so much fun to connect with other comedians and humorists.
I'm also looking forward to new additions to our writing groups and seeing what people come up with.
Very kind of you to share. Thanks, Alex!
